Research
For students interested in research, we encourage you to visit the VCU School of Medicine’s Research for Medical Students webpage to find valuable resources and guidance on how to get involved in research projects within PM&R and across other departments at VCU.
Shadowing
For students who are not currently enrolled at the VCU School of Medicine:
Participation in these experiences is limited to approved shadowing opportunities only. All non‑VCU students must review and comply with the Observer intake form for PM&R before requesting or participating in any observation.
Students get to view the interdisciplinary approach to medical and functional management of hospitalized patients on our rehabilitation medicine units with diagnoses such as spinal cord injury, stroke, polytrauma and brain injury.
This is a chance to see a variety of follow-up patients with a variety of issues such as pain, limb loss and musculoskeletal disorders in VCU’s outpatient clinics.
At the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, students can shadow pediatric PM&R physicians within their outpatient clinics treating young patients with diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and juvenile arthritis.
We encourage medical students to attend faculty and resident didactic lectures on PM&R-related topics on Wednesday mornings.
Student Interest Group
